Alexander the Great has a contract worthy of his nickname — the first $100 million deal in NHL history. Capitals owner Ted Leonsis (right) and Alexander Ovechkin negotiated the first deal in NHL history that guarantees nine figures of income. Alexander Ovechkin signed a $124 million, 13-year contract extension Thursday with the Washington Capitals, a handsome reward for the charismastic 22-year-old Russian who has been a nonstop goal-scorer since coming to the NHL in 2005. Lightning place goalie Marc Denis on waivers December 29, 2007

The Tampa Bay Lightning placed backup goalie Marc Denis on waivers Friday.

Denis, who’s in his ninth NHL season, has been a major disappointment since being acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in a June 2006 trade and signing a three-year, $8.6 million contract. He appeared in 10 games this season, going 1-5 with a 4.05 goals-against average and .859 save percentage. (more…)

Today I read on NHL.com that Philadelphia signed Mike Richards to a 12 year contract extension. Richards is a 22 year old rising star and is a solid player. (more…)
